A Sutton resident is to cycle a gruelling 300 miles in blistering heat to raise money for a local hospice.
Joe Ryan, from Carshalton, will cycle across Zambia in seven days to raise money for St Raphael’s Hospice.
He will be riding in temperatures as high as 95 degrees and will set off from Lusaka before finishing in Livingstone.
Since becoming a board member in 2010, Mr Ryan, a retired partner at Price Waterhouse Cooper, has completed various fundraising activities for the hospice.
He hopes this cycle trip will raise £5,000, which will allow the hospice to continue to provide free of charge care to more than 900 patients each year.
Louisa Hitchen, St Raphael’s Hospice Community Fundraiser, said: “It’s fantastic that Joe is taking this challenge on, but we are always in need of more people to do similar things to raise funds for the hospice.”
