The world’s most famous transvestite will be coming to Wimbledon this Christmas for her first ever pantomime performance.

Dama Edna Everage will star in Dick Whittington at New Wimbledon Theatre as five weeks from December 9 to January 15, 2012.

The legendary Dame, played by 77-year-old Australian comedian Barry Humphries, will play the Saviour of London who guides Dick Whittington to become Lord Mayor of London.

She joked: “I did the exact same thing for Boris Johnson not long ago”.

“Being a stranger to pantomime I am looking forward to all the fun and frolics and meeting all of you lovely little possums of London.“

Kevin Wood, chief executive for pantomime production outfit First Family Entertainment, said: “We are all very excited to be working with Dame Edna Everage this Christmas and once again securing such a big name to star in New Wimbledon Theatre’s pantomime.”
