A YOUNG mother and a teenager arrested over the alleged plot to blow up transatlantic jetliners have been remanded in custody after appearing in court.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with possessing articles useful to a person preparing acts of terrorism.

He is accused of possessing a book on improvised bombs, suicide notes, wills of those prepared to commit acts of terror and a map of Afghanistan.

His lawyer had an application for bail refused and indicated he would plead not guilty.

The teen was arrested by anti-terror police investigating the alleged plane bomb plot, but the charge against him does not relate to the alleged conspiracy.

Cossar Ali, a mother of an eight-month-old baby, was also remanded in custody after her second court appearance.

The 23-year-old is accused of failing to disclose information and was remanded until September 5, when her solicitor is expected to make an application for bail.

A third suspect, Mehran Hussain, 23, who is also charged with failing to disclose information, was remanded in custody until September 19.

In total, four of the 24 people initially arrested have been freed with no further action.

Twelve have now been charged - including eight men with conspiracy to murder and preparing acts of terrorism.

Another eight are in custody at the high security Paddington Green police station and can be questioned until Thursday.
