Over 120 people turned out last week in support of their library which is threatened by possible closure.

They gathered to discuss the future of Stoneleigh library after Surrey County Council’s Conservative ruling group voted unanimously last month to close 11 libraries if communities didn’t take up the option of running them.

Chair of the meeting, Diana Kay, said: "We cannot afford to lose such an important facility and judging by the response from those attending it would seem that there is a real passion and determination amongst the local community to keep the library open."
