TOP Gun enthusiasts can park their planes then sit back with popcorn if plans to open a drive-in cinema in an airfield get the go-ahead.
Dime Events has applied to erect a giant 28 foot tall screen on North Weald Airfield where people could park up and watch movies next summer.
Trevor Archer, of North Weald Airfield Users Group, said: “As long as they show some aviation-themed movies I will be there, but if it is all romantic comedies, maybe not.
“Anything that proposes to use the airfield for leisure activities is positive.”
Ken Rankin, director of Dime Events, said: “Movie viewers will be able to use headphones and also tune in to a special frequency on their radios so that residents will not be disturbed by noise.
“We will have a Pimm's tent and a special picnic area for summer evenings and will be showing a range of classics and blockbusters.
“We are aware of the part the airfield played during the war and will be showing the classic movie The Battle of Britain and will be holding a special event, which we will announce details of nearer the time.”
