Police investigating the theft of a street sign honouring HMV's iconic dog mascot Nipper have said they have no leads.
The alleyway leading to the Toilet Gallery off Clarence Street, Kingston, was renamed Nipper Alley in March last year.
The four-legged height sign disappeared two weeks ago.
A spokesman for Kingston police said: “It was reported to the police but we have no leads at present.
“The investigation will be closed if no further evidence comes to light.”
The new street name was officially christened by Nipper-lookalike Nippie, who pulled a cord to unveil a specially-made sign at a champagne-fuelled, red carpet ceremony attended by the mayor.
Patrick Blower, who led the campaign to honour the Jack Russell, said: “An artist put their time and effort trying to enhance a tiny corner of Kingston and it's a shame it's been repaid in that way.
“Although some artists might say the life of the sign goes on somewhere else, and someone, somewhere has the sign and it has a life of its own.”
Anyone with evidence should call Kingston police on 0300 123 1212
