A MAN has been found guilty of mugging two women.

Unemployed Darren Robinson, 35, targeted pedestrians in broad daylight during a weekend in September last year.

In the first case on Saturday September 4, Robinson approached a woman in Stanmore Road, Leytonstone, at around 3.30pm.

He tried to wrench her handbag from her shoulder but when she resisted he pulled her to the floor.

He then dragged her along the pavement until she let go.

A passer-by tried to intervene but Robinson managed to escape with the bag.

The next day he crept up behind a lone woman who was walking in Vicarage Road, Leyton, just after 8am.

Again, he grabbed her handbag and his victim refused to let go.

This time Robinson dragged her across the pavement and then into the road until the strap of the bag finally broke, allowing him to run off with it.

He denied involvement but was found guilty of robbery last Wednesday (February 16) at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Stuart Cheek of Waltham Forest Police said: "I would like to thank the victims for their courage in giving evidence and their assistance throughout the investigation.

Robinson, of Alexandra Road in Chadwell Heath, will be sentenced in four weeks.
