CCTV images of murder victim Samuel Guidera in a shop minutes before he was stabbed have been released by police.

Mr Guidera was found collapsed in the street in Newlands Park, opposite the junction of Bailey Place, at around 9.55pm on Saturday, around 200m from Penge East railway station.

The 24-year-old University of Greenwich student was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead at around 10.55pm.

A post mortem examination yesterday showed Mr Guidera died from a single stab wound to the heart.

Police have released CCTV images of Mr Guidera in a local convenience store, around 15 minutes before he was attacked, which he shopped in after taking the train from Bickley to Penge East.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Samuel had spent the day watching football with friends.

“He travelled on the 9.17pm train from Bickley to Penge East, crossed the footbridge over the railway to the Newlands Park exit en route to meet a friend.

“The CCTV images show Samuel as he went into the local convenience store before walking towards the bus stop on Newlands Park where he was attacked.”

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, who is leading the investigation for the Met’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command, appealed for witnesses.

He said: “We would urgently like to speak to anyone who may have seen Samuel on this Saturday evening, whether they saw him in the train carriage or saw him getting off at just before 9.30pm.

"He was carrying a distinctive pink T-mobile carrier bag which some one may remember.

“Perhaps they saw him going into or leaving the shop?

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward as they may have important information that may assist the investigation.”

Nobody has been arrested yet.

Mr Guidera lived in St John’s Road, just metres from where he was killed, with his parents, and worked part time at the Sainsbury’s in Bell Green, Sydenham.

He was studying history and politics at university and hoped to become a teacher.
