Croydon enjoyed a social media revival yesterday after users of networking site Twitter mocked the borough.
Initially, tweeters tagged negative posts with the notation '#thatssocroydon'.
However, as the trend continued, Croydon Council used the same tag to put a positive spin on the borough.
The council, on Twitter as @yourcroydon, began posting positive news with the tag.
One tweet read: "Volunteers wanted to help plant 2,011 new trees in a #Croydon field by Arena tram stop this weekend #thatssocroydon".
And the ploy earned praise from social media watchers and even the founders of the initial negative campaign.
@MarkBMJ wrote: "Sorry Croydon, I hope we haven’t offended you. We’re just paying tribute to Bowie #ThatssoCroydon".
