People with a passion for running are being sought by Croydon Council’s sports development team to be trained as group leaders.
The council will be offering subsidised training courses to help volunteers inspire other to take up running thanks to a grant from Play Sport London.
Group leaders will be expected to encourage and motivate people to help them lead a healthier lifestyle through physical activity.
Natalie Kavanagh-Clarke, London development officer for Run in England, said: "The New Year is the perfect time for us to be out looking for new recruits.
"There are a lot of resolutions being made to cut down on calories and get more exercise, and what we are all about is helping people to achieve their goals.
"Running is something that is so easy to do - but it’s also easy to get out of the habit without people around you keeping you motivated.
"That’s one of the things that our group leaders really help with."
