A SOCIAL worker accused of failing to report an allegation of abuse will get a second chance to clear her name.

A number of allegations of misconduct by Rosalind Shaw were in 2009 upheld by a committee of the General Social Care Council (GSCC), which ruled she should be banned from the profession to protect the public.

But the hearing had taken place in her absence after a request from Ms Shaw for an adjournment because her mother was sick was rejected.

She appealed against the committee’s decision and a tribunal found in her favour, ruling that the hearing should take place again with her present.

Ms Shaw, who joined Waltham Forest Council's intermediate care assessment team in December 2004, faces a string of allegations.

Ms Shaw is accused of not reporting an allegation of abuse by a carer towards a service user, failing to assess service users and carers adequately and not maintaining patient confidentiality.

She is also accused of not following a number of instructions from management, including a requirement that she reports to the office before the start of duty each day.

It is also alleged that she lied about completing an incident report.

Ms Shaw's contract was terminated by the council in June 2005.

The tribunal is due to start on Monday (January 10) and is expected to last a week.
