Holding maths classes in an aquarium is certainly one way of injecting some excitement into the subject.

The Sea Life Centre at Chessington World of Adventures gave year five pupils from Ellingham Primary School that chance to do just that.

They helped staff in the annual aquarium stock take on Wednesday, October 20, which took several hours to complete.

Head aquarist Simon Dunn said: "The stock take is a mammoth task but one we need to do every year. We have over 90 different species and an estimated 1,100 fish, and although counting the bigger creatures such as sharks and rays is obviously easy, this year we decided we needed help to count the many smaller fish.

"The stock take is especially important this year as the main tank will be drained on November 2 and all the fish will be transported to Weymouth Sea Life Centre which will be a huge task in itself.

"This is so work can get started on an exciting new project bringing a new world to Chessington Sea Life for Christmas this year."
