A street boozer banned by an Asbo from entering the town centre has a dilemma when he wants to go home - as he lives in the exclusion zone.

Steve Brooker, 34, was handed the Asbo preventing him from entering or drinking in Croydon town centre.

Unfortunately for Brooker, who lives in High Street, it now means he is only allowed to leave and enter Croydon by one street – Lower Coombe Road.

Brooker was given the Asbo on October 8 following a string of incidents where he had been drunk and abusive to members of the public.

Croydon town centre police team applied for the Asbo after attempts at giving Brooker support and help were repeatedly turned down.

If he breaks the Asbo’s conditions he may face a fine or up to five years in jail.

Inspector Simon Ellingham, from Croydon’s town centre team, said: “This Asbo is for everyone who wants to visit the town centre in peace.

“Brooker has been a consistent nuisance towards people shopping and visiting Croydon, so he will no longer be able to carry on with this sort of behaviour.”

The terms of the Asbo mean Brooker must not enter Croydon town centre unless it is to come and go from his home and if he does, he is only permitted to do so by one road.

He is also prohibited from consuming alcohol or carrying it in an open vessel in a public place, within Croydon town centre, for the next five years.
