Surbiton residents will have to survive without posh nosh for a whole week, after Waitrose announced it would be closed for a full-scale revamp.

The Claremont Road store, which opened in 1999, will be closed from 8pm today and is not scheduled to be reopened until 8.30am on Friday, September 10.

The quality food chain will undergo wide-ranging refurbishment works which they say will create 15 new jobs and a wider selection of products. The car park will also be closed.

Waitrose says it will also provide new departments offering wine, haberdashery and a gift-wrapping service.
