THE redevelopment of Finchley Memorial Hospital will go ahead after Government funding was finally signed off.
In July plans for a new community hub in Brunswick Park were scrapped after the treasury withdrew proposed funding over fears the project would not be completed on time.
This led to fears over the viability of the hospital project, but this week ministers signed off the £10m grant towards the redevelopment of the Granville Road site, built in 1908.
The revamp of the 3.7 hectare site costing £40m overall, will include the relocation of buildings onto dormant playing fields and will be home to several GP practises.
Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer said: “I’m obviously delighted the treasury has agreed to finance the project.
“As the coalition Government clears up the mess left behind by Labour there are going to have to be cuts, but important NHS projects such as this are still going ahead.
“I made clear to ministers that this was a vital local project and thankfully they listened.”
