Croydon dad's regrets over Raoul Moat's killing rampage

Raoul Moat’s long lost father said he wished he could have stopped his son’s murderous rampage.

In an interview with a national newspaper Peter Blake, 69, from Croydon, told the Mirror: “Maybe I could have stopped all this and prevented all the heartache. He was obviously desperate for a father figure and I wasn’t there for him.”

The former council worker, who had never met his son, told the national newspaper he felt sick when he heard what his son had done.

Family members said he was present at Moat’s funeral.

The 37-year-old is reported to have told friends he was desperate to find his father and felt his absence was the cause of all his problems.

Before he shot himself with a sawn-off shotgun after a six-hour stand-off with police he is reported to have said: “I’ve no dad – no one cares about me.”

The ex-bouncer was the focus of a massive manhunt in July after shooting his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend Sam Stobbart and killing her 29-year-old boyfriend Chris Brown.

He also shot at and blinded David Rathband, 42, a police officer.

Just before he went on his rampage, the father of three changed his Facebook status to: “Just got out of jail, I’ve lost everything, my business, my property and to top it all off my lass has gone off with someone else.

“Watch and see what happens.”
