A FLOWER and produce festival is being held to raise funds to restore an 18th century church organ.

So far around £17,000 has been raised towards the massive £250,000 needed to save the organ at St Andrew’s Church, near Enfield Town’s market square.

The flower and produce festival will be held in the church from Friday October 1 to Sunday October 3 - and all funds raised will go towards the restoration.

The organ, used for major services at the church, was purchased for £900 in 1752 by local benefactor Mary Nickells. It has been restored several times over the years, and contains thousands of mechanical parts which need replacing as parts of the organ no longer function.

It is now in its original position in the West gallery after being moved to several positions around the church.

Those wishing to donate can send cheques to St Andrew's organ restoration fund at The Parish Office, Enfield Vicarage, Silver Street, Enfield, EN1 3EG. Or, to donate online, go to www.st-andrew-enfield.com/Organ-Restoration-Appeal
