Festival feasts for Clapham's Venn Street Market

Good food and festivals don’t often go hand in hand, but revellers at this year’s Field Day were in culinary heaven when Clapham’s Venn Street market moved it operation east.

There wasn’t a greasy burger or burnt pizza slice in sight at this summer’s event, as traders from the food market peddled their delicious wares to festival-goers.

Now, Venn Street is planning a series of event to complement its monthly markets.

A beer festival, a Halloween fancy dress competition and a Christmas raffle are just a few of the activities being planned by the organisers of the Venn Street food and flower market between now and Christmas.

The market, which take over Clapham’s Venn Street on the last weekend of each month, is thought to be only two markets of its kind in London, catering exclusively for foodies and horticulturalists with a “food” and a “flower” day.

Artisan produce, featuring food traders from all over London, includes offerings from award-winning south London butcher Moen’s and celebrated bakers Flour Station and Flour Power.

On Sundays Venn Street transforms into a flower and plant market where horticultural enthusiasts have the chance to get their hands on a variety of mainly British-grown garden plants and flowers.

The sellers featured at Venn are plant experts who show at major British shows and fairs - including Hampton Court, Chelsea Flower Show and the rare Plant Fair - who will be on hand to share their knowledge and offer tips to market visitors.

Venn Street Market takes place on August 28 and 29. The market is situated close to Clapham Common Tube station.
