A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a dog burnt alive.
Shockwaves rippled through the Roehampton community after a rottweiler’s charred body was found locked in a cage under a tower block in Tunworth Crescent on July 2.
Residents of the Alton estate had been growing impatient that the yobs responsible had not been brought to justice since the savage act of cruelty.
Supporters of Facebook group “name and shame the sick ******** that burnt that poor dog alive!!”, which has more than 8,000 members, even organised a protest outside Roehampton police station for September 2.
But a police spokeswoman this week confirmed a man had been arrested and bailed to return to a south London police station on September 15.
After the killing, officers traced the owner of the dog to Streatham and appealed for information as to how the rottweiler, believed to be called Kairn, ended up in Roehampton.
The spokeswoman said enquiries were continuing. Anyone with information should call Wandsworth police on 0300 123 1212.
