BEXLEYHEATH: Strange lights stalk the skies over Bexley

First published in News

STRANGE lights have been spotted in the skies over Bexley in recent weeks, leaving people puzzled about whether or not they have spotted UFOs.

Deborah Perry was at her Barnehurst home, putting out food for the local wildlife when she spotted up to 30 ”flying craft” in the night sky.

At first, she assumed they were planes coming from London City Airport , heading off to pick up people stranded abroad by the volcanic ash cloud.

She watched them for around 20 minutes and said: “I thought it was odd they were not flying behind each other, but more in a group formation, which appeared to be moving at the same pace, quite slow.

“I also noticed there was absolutely no noise.”

She said the objects had no red or green wing lights and each had a bright white light around it like an aura.

Ms Perry added: “They disappeared completely with no trace.”

She said: “I would love to know if these were UFOs or if anyone else saw anything on the same night.

“I have waited a lifetime, 45 years, to see this and I do hope it was UFOs.”

Ms Perry’s sighting was on April 20, and 12 days later Debbie Fitzgerald was in Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, when she and her husband spotted an orange light in the sky, silent and moving quickly.

She said: “A few minutes later there was another one, but this one was like a red pulsating light.”

She too would like to know if anyone else spotted anything strange in the sky on May 2.

Were they UFOs, or Chinese lanterns?

I have twice seen these lights. Once over Danson Park roundabout and again over Beths School. They are chinese lanterns. They are like hot air balloons consisting of an up side down paper bag with a small candle hung at the bottom. They silently drift with the wind and give a yellow light which can be seen for miles even though it is only a candle. UFOs bah!

I also saw these flashing lights in the sky tonight at 22.30 around Bexley on Friday 14th May '10. There were five red/orange flickering lights moving slowly but together in a formation of a line, then they started to flicker out and disappear. It was quite a clear night and nothing else in the sky, it was very strange and i would really like to know what it was.

This is so strange! We live on Parkside Avenue in Barenhurst and saw two orange lights travelling accross the sky one after another on the evening of 9th April. They were perfectly round and silent and dissapeared after about 3 minutes.
My fiance thought they might be comet's but they were moving too slowly and deliberately.
Reading these comments is making me start to think they might have been UFO's after all.

I'm one of the people mentioned in this story. Id like to say the first one that we saw can be explained as a chinese lantern as it was definitely flame like and to me looked like a miniature hot air balloon but the second one, i got video footage of and it is not flame like at all. It is a red light and it pulsates (not flashes like aeroplanes do) and was silent. I really can't put this one down to a chinese lantern, was nothing like the first one. Someone suggested meteor but when they looked at it, said they didn't think so. I'm not saying UFO (though it is an unidentified flying object!) but I would be interested to know what it was.
