STUDENTS have created a giant graffiti mural close to The Gateway entrance at Buckinghamshire New University.

The 40-ft long board is being transformed into a colourful spray-painted depiction of life at the University.

Students from BA (Hons) Graphic Arts, Fine Art and Contemporary Furniture, as well as friend Tom Jackson, 23, of Wordsworth Road, High Wycombe, are bringing the creation to life.

The group all attend Idle Hands Art Collective, working on graffiti and street art, which meets at the University.

Their work shows a woman’s face looking down on The Gateway and leading into the life of the University, showcasing subjects from sports to drama.

Students were invited to do the work by Ian Hunter, Director of Estates and Facilities, and designs were also approved by Vice Chancellor, Ruth Farwell.

Mr Hunter said: “This is really how our students see the University and it looks great.

“The University sponsored the work, with contributions from Estates and Facilities, Marketing, the Faculty of Design, Media & Management, and the Student’s Union.

“This is a great opportunity for the students to bring to life the way they see what we do here.”

Student Rupert Butcher said it was "fantastic to express yourself”.

He added: “It’s good to get out of the classroom and produce something that is going to be seen by everyone visiting the University.”
