Strangulation marks were found on the neck of a mystery woman whose body was found in a Wembley road.
Detectives have launched a murder inquiry after the body was found by a local resident outside garages off Lancelot Road at 9.30pm on Tuesday night.
Initial investigations revealed what appeared to be ligature marks around her neck.
Detectives were appealing for help to try to identify the dead woman yesterday (Wednesday). A post mortem was held at Northwick Park Hospital yesterday afternoon to establish the cause of death.
An incident room has been set up at Albany Street police station in Camden led by Detective Chief Inspector Ross Boardley.
A police spokesman said: "The woman had no handbag or any other form of identification and it is vital that we identify her as quickly as possible.
"There were no visible injuries and at the moment there is no suggestion of any sexual assault. No weapons were found in the vicinity."
The dead woman was about 5ft 4 tall, slim, with blondish, collar length hair. When discovered she was wearing blue jeans, a pale blue round neck jumper, black open toed shoes, and a distinctive multi-coloured, three quarter length cardigan in black, blue, green, beige and orange. She had a fine gold chain around her neck and a ring on each hand.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious in Lancelot Road or think they know who the woman is are asked to call the incident room on 0181 733 6254.
