A PENSIONER couple have won their battle to have an unjust parking fine withdrawn.

Shirley and Ernest Ramsey visited Lidl, in Upper Wickham Lane, Welling, with their disabled son, Trevor, on March 5.

At 2.40pm the family, of Upton Road, Bexley, parked in the car park, where you can park free for an hour but once leaving you may not return for three hours.

They left the store at 3pm, which is confirmed by their receipt, and left the car park around five minutes later.

Five days later, Mrs Ramsey was shocked to receive a parking charge notice in the post, which demanded £75, rising to £150 if it was not paid by March 20.

The letter, from a company known as City Parking Enforcement Ltd, does not have a contact telephone number and the address given is a PO Box number.

It also states the Ramsey's car was recorded as being on the premises of the car park from 11.42am until 3.08pm.

The letter offers no evidence of this allegation and states if payment is not received, further action will be taken.

Mrs Ramsey, aged 71, said: "I was absolutely horrified. It's definitely a scam.

"They're asking me for money for an offence. What offence? For shopping for 20 minutes? My husband has a weak heart and is not even able to get out of bed until lunchtime there's no way we would have been there before noon.

"I did write to the company to ask for photographic evidence of our car being there for this period of time but I have heard nothing at all from them.

"The letter threatens to take us to court but I know in my heart we weren't there for this period of time but they just don't seem to care."

Mr Ramsay, 71,who also suffers from lymphoma, said: "It's the Government's fault for letting our confidential information be so easily accessed.

He added: "We are living in a George Orwell era", referring to the author's predicted Big Brother surveillance state.

After a week of phonecalls and letters from Mrs Ramsey, Lidl have since confirmed the ticket will be cancelled.

A Lidl spokesman said: "When a customer is that upset and has only been in the store for 20 minutes, there has obviously been a system failure somewhere."

City Parking Enforcement Ltd declined to comment.

I received a similar demand from them this morning, pertaining to Lidl on Globe Road, Bow. they seem to have shot themselves in the foot though - I am recorded as having been there for half an hour, which is well within the allowed period. I am simply going to sit on it and allow them to get themselves into a lather trying to obtain the money from me and then point out that little detail.

The same thing happened to us in Lidl car Park at Brighton: we went twice on the same day for 10 minutes and they said we remained there all day. Dvla has licenced these crooks: let us all inform them so that their licence is removed!

I have just had a parking charge notice for £150 from City Parking Enforcement Ltd.I parked in Lidl at Worthing.I did two large shops, queued for around 15-20 mins both times.I have two till receipts with the transaction times on them which prove I had not been anywhere else and therefore not abused the free parking scheme. One problem is you cannot physically speak to anyone either at Lidl Head Office or at the Parking enforcement firm to explain the situation. My husband went into Worthing Lidl to hand deliver a letter regarding the incident and was told the manager would contact us on Sunday, but so far he hasnt. We have decided to go to court to fight it and contact the press and our local MP ,so watch this space!

I also shopped twice in the Lidl store in Barking, Essex on 13/11/06. On 23/11/06. I received a parking notice as well. I even drew a floor plan of the car park & indicated where I parked (in different bays). Unfortunately, I discarded both my till receipts. However, I did write both Lidl & City Parking Enforcing Ltd. I was surprised I got a reply from arriving at the car park in the morning and leaving it in the afternoon. I argued that I made 2 visits to the car park in one day. When I wrote to them explaining this, they wrote back and they wanted evidence to support my claim. In my opinion, they deleted the photos of me leaving the car park (am) and returning again (afternoon). I then resent another letter threating legal action & told them that my MP would be contacting them. I also told them that I would be going to the press. Today (02/12/06), I received a letter from them. Good news, they have CANCELLED the ticket. My advice is: Don't give up!!

You will be pleased to know that LIDL have at least ceased the contract with City Parking Enforcement effective I believe from the 1st of April. Doesn't yet get me out of the hole of CPE issuing a £190 demand plus bailiffs and legal costs for a proven legal stay via the local Fitness First gym. Hmmmmm !

We also had a ticket from City Parking Enforcement, for parking at the rear of Viceroy Parade - Shenfield. It was for £85.00 if paid within 28 days or £170 plus £40.00 administration fee if paid after. Since we had never been to Shenfield, let alone parked there, I knew it must be incorrect. I took the Notice to the police as I felt it was obviously a scam. The police did do a check and a policeman rang back saying that there was a company by that name and gave me their telephone number. I phoned the number given and the person there said that the PO address was not theirs and they did not have a site at Viceroy Parade Shenfield. I threfore wrote to the PO address on the notice requesting the photographic evidence mentioned. I quickly got a reply that they had reviewed the photographs and apologised that a mistake had been made in reading the numberplate. I am still convinced this is a scam, and would like to know how many people had just paid up to avoid a £200+ bill

There isn't much more to say regarding Lidl, they don't handle complaints, why should they when people still come through their doors? the parking enforcers they use do not play fair or care, very much for the same reasons, people pay up making them money. My advice to everyone, Spread The Word and Don't Shop at any of their stores, then perhaps they might take note and listen. My mother is a pensioner in her seventies and is sorry WAS a regular shopper in the Streatham store. Last week she spent over £134 and got a £90 parking fine for her troubles, just because she stayed over one and a half hours. A youngster may find a parking spot quickly, shop quickly some how get to the front of a queue quicly, pack quickly and get out of the car park quickly, but an elderly woman? Once you enter the car park, the picture of the car is taken and date and time stamped and the same when you exit. I don't have a problem with Lidl trying to stop people using their car park as a freebie and park all day with no intention of shopping in their store, but there must be a better system, which doesn't penalise the regular shopper. Problem, if the car park is full when you eneter and you have to go around in a circle looking for space, this could take you half an hour. Park and then to find a trolly and walk around the store on a busy day. can take more than half an hour, what time would you put on £134's worth of items inbcluding things you have to make up your mind to buy/ you are shopping and looking. A £134 is a lot of items and money. You then find yourself in a long queue at the cash til. This alone can take half an hour. Need I go on. My mother myself and the rest of our family, will no longer shop in Lidl, EVER . The £134 plus the £90 fine could just as well be spent in Sainsbury or Tesco. DON'T SHOP IN LIDL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED . Spread the word

No need to "fight" it. It's just an invoice.

Checking out the forums on www.pepipoo.com.

You are being duped by the parking company into thinking you ave been issued with an enforceable fine. What you have is an invoice - and an entirely unenforceable one at that.

Do not pay!!!! It is a scam!!!
