Upminster 253-3
Walthamstow 249-7
(Division Two)

WALTHAMSTOW'S promotion push suffered another setback on Saturday with a seven wicket defeat at league-leaders Upminster.

While the visitors lost openers Otis Binnie (3) and Abdul Mahammed (5) early on, an excellent 102 from Mo Zyauddin, with support from Tim Cartwright (59) and an undefeated 29 by Michael Harris, allowed the E17 boys to declare on 249-7 from their allotted 52 overs.

Jason McNally (5-70) spearheaded the home attack.

While the prolific Dave Burnage had Upminster opener Simon Mayes trapped LBW for no score, the hosts always looked more than capable of going on to take the spoils.

Arshad Ali (62) and Sahfiq Rahman (84) laid the foundations for victory, while in the end Junaid Sarwar and Michael Rath with undefeated scores of 55 and 37 respectively wrapped up proceedings after 44.3 overs.

Reflecting on the result Walthamstow skipper Binnie said: "To be honest we faced a thankless task, because they are a very good side and to be fair our only real plus point on the day was Mo's excellent innings."
