A MAJOR development on the site of an old dog racing stadium has fallen through due to the recession.
Approved in October 2008, the Catford Stadium site was due to feature 589 homes along with new shops and a community centre.
But, owing to the economic downturn and a failure to secure Government Kickstart funding, the scheme is now not considered financially viable.
Last month, News Shopper reported how similar problems have stalled the landmark Lewisham Gateway development.
Deputy Mayor of Lewisham Councillor Heidi Alexander said: “It's disappointing to think that the dog track site isn't going to be redeveloped any time soon, but I do think this gives us an opportunity to go back to the drawing board.
“At the moment the overgrown site is an eyesore.”
Landowner the Homes and Communities Agency is now considering how to take forward the development of the site.
