Every decent comic book superhero eventually gets their own big screen debut, and Sutton’s own crimefighter is no exception.

Homegrown hero SOS is following suit later this month, with a film about his extraordinary exploits in 2009.

A screening of Superhero Me, starring the borough’s favourite protector, is soon to be on show at a nearby cinema.

Superhero Me is a documentary film, highlighting SOS’s quest for peace and prosperity across the mighty borough of Sutton.

Speaking from a secret lair in Epsom, SOS said: “The movie is essentially about becoming a superhero. Anyone can become a superhero. You just need money, training and willpower.

“I’m hoping the film will be shown at Reigate Cinema.”

The costumed crimefighter, instantly identifiable by his skintight yellow outfit complete with industrial ear protectors, has already circulated flyers for the event and is eagerly anticipating the film.

The homegrown hero has only met Sutton Guardian reporters in a public place, and refused to reveal his “secret identity”.

According to SOS he is the product of a doomed scientific experiment that went horribly wrong.

He said: “I did not choose to become a superhero, it chose me.

“I should really be in a retirement home but instead I patrol the streets in search of people who may need my help.

“My only memory of the accident is someone from the lab repeatedly sending out an SOS morse code distress signal.

“After months recovering in hospital it was clear I had changed somewhat.”

The rise of SOS last year signalled that a trend for amateur crimebusters has well and truly arrived from America.

According to the online World Superhero Registry, more than 300 men and women in tights routinely spend their spare time dispatching super-villains.
