ROBBERS armed with a hammer smashed their way into a town centre jewellers this morning.
A group of men, with hoods and scarves over their faces, smashed cabinets in Goldlovers pawnbrokers, in St Anns Road, as shoppers watched on.
They were seen by witnesses running out with bundles of goods.
One man, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard the banging and the alarms. I saw them with hammers. They tried to smash the cabinets inside.
“They had hoods up and scarves over their faces. There was a few of them. People were just standing around watching.”
Diljeet Singh, an employee of Nyva, next door to the shop, said: “When I came out they took the stuff in their arms and they ran away.
“I saw the hammer. They were wearing scarves over their faces.”
