Police are investigating the theft of another mini digger from the Three Rivers area, bringing the total number stolen in recent weeks to five.
The digger was reported stolen from Berry Lane, Rickmansworth, on Saturday, January 23.
That brings to five the number of similar incidents reported by the Watford Observer since December.
Thefts were reported in Blacketts Wood Drive, Chorleywood, on December 21; in London Road, Rickmasnworth, on January 21; and in Oakleigh Drive, Croxley Green, on Tuesday.
In the last of these incidents thieves, dressed in overalls, simply loaded the vehicle – and a matching dumper – on to the back of a lorry before driving away.
When challenged by an early morning dog walker they claimed to own both machines and said they were moving them to another site.
Two other thefts were reported on November 19, near junction 17 of the M25, and on October 13, in Loudwater.
