A 51-YEAR-OLD woman was killed while walking her dog by a hit-and-run driver.
Sandra Toner, of Drayson Close, in Waltham Abbey, was walking her Irish Wolfhound along Parklands at 5.20pm yesterday when she was struck by a black Nissan Navara 4x4.
Both the woman and her her dog were killed instantly.
The male driver of the car fled the scene and drove along Parklands and into Upshire Road, where his car ploughed into railings outside Upshire Primary School.
The 56-year old, also from Waltham Abbey, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, where he is in a stable condition.
Two sections of the road were closed for seven hours while forensic officers carried out enquiries and the debris was cleared from the road.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call officers at the crash investigation team on 0300 333 4444.
