A car being pursued by police crashed into another vehicle leaving one of its passengers in a critical condition.
Policers officers driving a marked police van were following a black Vauxhall Vectra when it crashed with a Renault Clio in Wrythe Lane, Sutton near the junction with Wrythe Green Lane at 12.45am.
Three passengers of the Clio - a female driver and two male passengers, aged in their twenties, were all taken to a South London hospital.
One of the men has injuries that are considered life threatening; the woman driver was treated for minor injuries and later discharged and the other man suffered minor injuries and remains in hospital as a precaution.
The driver of the Vectra, a 29-year-old man was arrested nearby and is in custody at a south London police station.
Police originally began following the car on Carshalton Road West, near Sutton Police Station, after being drawn to its manner of driving.
Officers from Hampton Traffic Garage have attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service and Directorate of Professional Standard are investigating the circumstances of any police involvement regarding the collision.
