CARE homes are appealing for volunteer bagpipe players to celebrate Robbie Burns’ birthday.

The Scottish poet’s life and work will be celebrated in Manley Court Nursing Centre, New Cross, where tuneful players are needed for piping in the haggis on Burns Night.

Bupa have arranged celebrations across London on January 25 and during that week for their residents. These will consist of songs, poetry recitals and the traditional Scottish meal of Haggis, neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes).

Rounding off the event will be Burns’ famous song of friendship, Auld Lang Syne.

Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community affairs manager, said: “No Burns Night supper would be complete without piping in the haggis. “We’d love to hear if you can help us celebrate in style.”

Interested volunteer pipers should call 0845 600 4622.
