Recent research has revealed that holidaymakers will survive the recession and come through with more resilience and confidence in the way they spend their money.

Research company Mintel, has predicted that people will be adopting new lifestyles born from having had to economise and prioritise their money.

Richard Cope, director of foresight at Mintel, said "While in 2009, fear played an important role in shaping consumer behaviour, 2010 will see a return of confidence." He predicted that consumers will adapt and overcome the restrictions set by the recession.

Cope added that he thought people would have learnt from the recession and said "Balance has become the new mantra" meaning that he believed that as people began to spend again they would be able to balance their outgoings against their incomings more evenly.

It is predicted that holidaymakers will still be wary when booking holidays in 2010 and will be looking for the best bargains. Most people will shop around on the internet so they can compare prices of flights and accommodation to make sure they are getting a good deal.

However holidaymakers could be tempted into spending a bit more if they can be sure they will be getting better value for money by doing so. Brand names which offer credibility and value are likely to tempt customers into spending more particularly on competitive destinations such as Canary Island holidays.

It's probably too early to tell whether we are emerging from this recession or whether as a nation we are just managing our finances a little better. But one thing seems clear, people who had to go without holidays this year will be more determined to make sure they get away in 2010.

Destinations which use the Euro such as Greece, Spain and Canary Islands holidays could suffer slightly due to the weak conversion of the currency, however this could benefit resorts in Egypt, Croatia and Turkey as holidaymakers flaunt their new found financial freedom.
