PROTESTORS battling a new government home education bill have handed a petition to their MP.

The petition is one of 400 from all over England that is due to be presented to Parliament.

It argues that a new government bill forcing parents to register as a home educator and then facing an inspection will put the future of home schooling in “peril”.

Orpington petition co-ordinator Pip Norris said: “The proposed laws are another example of the movement towards taking responsibility away from parents, families and citizens and handing it over to the state as the government has done in so many other areas of home life.

“The nanny state intrusion continues.”

The petition was handed to Orpington MP John Horam during his surgery in Sevenoaks Road, Orpington, on Saturday (November 28).
