SPORTING heroes from across Buckinghamshire were handed awards by Olympic athlete Iwan Thomas in recognition of their hard work in the community last night.
Sports groups and individuals from across the region came together for the glitzy awards bash at Horwood House in Milton Keynes at the prestigious Bucks Sport Awards.
Former Commonwealth 400m runner Thomas, who was joined by Radio presenter Richard Carr, presented the awards, with south Bucks-based nominees dominating the show.
Beaconsfield's Alfirston School beat off stiff competition from Sir William Borlase in Marlow to win the School of the Year award, while Jan Harper from High Wycombe's Clan Netball Club was named Volunteer of the Year.
Beaconsfield High School student Anna Collin was awarded the Young Leader of the Year gong and the Business of the Year award was claimed by Beaconsfield-based PR agency Cirkle.
While Wycombe Hockey Club coach Kate Potter fought off George Milton Bevan from Badminton Wycombe and Chesham's Ley Hill Cricket Club coach Dave Peterson to take the Coach of the Year crown.
Chairman of the Bucks and Milton Keynes Sport Board, Peter Thomas, said: “This special evening was our chance to recognise the valuable contribution of all those who deliver sport at a local level in the county of Buckinghamshire.”
