Mayor arts advisor visits Enfield

THE Mayor of London's arts advisor visited Enfield yesterday to experience the borough's cultural scene.

Munira Mirtza came to learn more about Enfield Council’s work and how residents are engaging with the arts.

During her whistlestop tour she visited Millfield Theatre, in Silver Street, Edmonton, and inclusive theatre group Chickenshed, in Chase Side, Southgate.

Enfield chief executive Rob Leak and Enfield councillor Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, showed the minister around the borough.

Mr Kaye said, “Enfield has so much to offer London and tourists, and we’re pleased to work with the London mayor to deliver better services and high quality arts for local residents.

"We are proud of our achievements and intend to play a full part in London’s cultural Olympiad in 2012.”

Mr Leak added: “This year the council has delivered great programmes and great facilities, and we shall continue to encourage the arts through education, events and live performance.”

The council plans to invest a further £2 million in Millfield House to complete the Millfield Arts Centre, and £809,500 in the Dugdale Centre, a new flexible performance area at Thomas Hardy House, in Enfield Town.

Forty Hall, in Forty Hill, is also due to benefit from a £4.8 million makeover.
