Teenagers get a taste for fashion industry during course at OG Clothing in Wood Street

A GROUP of teenagers sucessfully completed a t-shirt printing course as part of a scheme to help them shape their future.

The course was run by OG Clothing Co in Wood Street, Walthamstow, in conjunction with Waltham Forest Borough Council, to help disadvantaged or vulnerable teenagers.

Company director, Abi Aslam, who opened the shop and fashion training academy last year, said he was impressed with enthusiasm of the students.

He said: "Some of these young people do not like standard education and hence they rebel from the system, we here have created something that is not only great fun it is also engaging.

"Recently there have been more stabbings in Walthamstow. I just want to help these young people to focus away from the negative and into positive activities that they enjoy and can lead to qualifications, awards, work experience, self development, self employment and ultimately a fresh, challenging focus in life."

From the first paragraph we must deduce these children do not take kindly to authority or discipline - so just how does this project help them, during the season of goodwill to ALL men, as the Christmas saying goes, to learn to be respectful to anybody else apart from themselves??
This is yet another example of showing delinquents, or those on the downslope towards it, that indiscipline pays and you get offers that should be awarded to those children who DO behave themselves.

Nonsense, Redfox.

Youngsters who struggle with school need the opportunity to discover that a) learning can be interesting and b) they can achieve if they put in the effort. As far as respect is concerned, I don't expect Abi Aslam would have let them get away with bad behaviour.

Furthermore, courses like this take the young people off the streets in a productive way.

Congratulations to OG Clothing for coming up with a scheme that offers positive activities designed to develop the children's skills.

If you can think of something better, Redfox, then let's hear it. And please, please, don't say that giving them a clip round the ear or stamping down on them is the answer to disadvantage and rebellion.

Well said, Helen. Perhaps Redfox should move to Chingford with the rest of the hang 'em and flog 'em brigade - that's obviously his/her spiritual home!
