Pregnant woman faced men accused of murder, court hears

A PREGNANT Somali woman lied to men armed with a kinfe to save a 20-year-old's life, a court heard yesterday.

Ahmed Muse fled the Wealdstone Total garage after watching friend Hassan Kul Hawadleh,19, of West Hendon, being stabbed to death on February 19, it is claimed.

The woman, referred to only as Sam to protect her identity, said he grabbed hold of her stomach shouting “these men have killed two of my brothers and they want to kill me now”.

Mr Muse last week told the Old Bailey how Sam panicked as he begged her for help in Somali, but the court heard how she played along as he pretended she was his mother.

Sam, who was with two young children at the time, told jurors: “The men who were chasing him and wanted to kill him came close to me. Very close.

“I can remember very clearly there were three of them. The boy said 'she is my mother'. They wanted to kill the boy. I said 'don't harm him, don't kill him, he's my son'.”

She described the leader of the group as a tall black man, darker in skin colour than Somalis, with a gold tooth and aged around 35 to 40.

She said he was carrying a knife in his trousers and claimed he told the boy “you are lucky, I would have killed you dead but your mother is here”.

Abdul Khan, 19, of Enderley Road, Wealdstone, admits he was the one who stabbed Mr Hawadleh in the heart and left him to die on the petrol station forecourt, but denies murder.

Onochie Madekwe, 33, of Kingsbury, Andrew Spence, 22, of Ealing, and Michael Anthony Boyde, 37, of Willesden, are accused of taking part in the killing and also deny murder.

They all deny attempted murder and grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent for allegedly punching, kicking and stabbing Abdiwahab Guiled in the same incident.

Mr Guiled survived the attack but needed surgery and was left with bruises that gave him trouble sleeping months later, it is claimed.

Mr Madekwe denies violent disorder in relation to an attack on Wasarme Guiled earlier the same evening.

The trial continues.
