PONDERS End has been given £30,000 and expert design advice in a scheme from the Mayor of London.
The area is part of Enfield Council's regeneration scheme and is first on the list of 36 projects for Boris Johnson’s Great Spaces Award.
This means Enfield Council has now secured £30,000 of funding which will be spent on feasibility studies, design and procurement advice.
Also, Design for London, the London Development Agency and Transport for London will liaise with the council on plans to improve the area.
The announcement comes during the consultation on the Ponders End Framework for Change, part of the council’s placeshaping scheme, which is set to close on December 18.
Cllr Michael Lavender, Cabinet Member for Place Shaping said “We aim to make Ponders End a place people will want to come to. Streets need to be welcoming, safe and accessible, where children and young people can feel safe. Parks need to be well used and bring benefits to the community.
“We are meeting with Design for London next week to agree how to move forward with this, but it is a very exciting time for Ponders End.”
Launched last spring, the Mayor’s Great Spaces aims to develop and improve streets, squares, parks and riverside walks.
Bob Heapy, Chief Executive of Enfield Homes said: “The quality of public space is very important when people decide whether to live, visit or invest in an area. High quality public areas can increase public safety and reduce anti social behaviour.
“To hear that Ponders End is to receive this Award money is excellent news.”
