A SQUASH club in Harrow has hit new heights after being awarded a national mark of excellence for its training and work with the local community.

Harrow Squash Club now holds the Silver Club Charter after proving its has excellent facilities, provides a welcoming environment for players, and sets high standards in training the next generation of young squash players.

The award has been given to the club, which is based at Harrow Leisure Centre, by the national Squash and Racketball Association.

Club coach Tony Morrison said: “We are made up that we have got the charter, it shows the good work we are doing at the club.”

An official award ceremony is due to take place at the leisure centre, in Christchurch Avenue, with members of the club, officials from the national association, bosses from Leisure Connection, which runs the centre, and Councillor Eric Silver, Mayor of Harrow.

With the charter, the club will now be able to train squash coaches under the England Squash National Coaching Scheme, while continuing its tradition as a leading sports club in Harrow.

The club has recently expanded the number of sessions it runs and boosted its coaching team with Mo Khalifa, the former world number seven squash player.
