TWO Wooburn Green schoolchildren played a starring role in front of the Queen and a live television audience at the Royal Albert Hall.
At Saturday's Remembrance Festival Freddie Stringer and Abbie Lee, both seven, presented a wreath to the president of the British Legion after thousands of poppies had fallen from the ceiling during the two minutes silence.
The pair, who go to St Paul's Combined School in Wooburn Green, walked down the aisle hand in hand to a trumpet fanfare.
Young Freddie told the Lt Gen Sir John Kiszely: “We present these poppies from children to say thanks to all those who gave their lives so we could be free”, before Abbie handed him the poppy wreath.
Freddie, from High Wycombe, said: “I was a bit nervous but it was really cool and a new experience for me.
Abbie's proud mum Emma, from Bourne End, said: “She was so chuffed about doing it and I was so emotional. It was a fantastic experience for her.
Freddie's parents Barry and Justine are in the RAF band which played at the service and were asked to find two children to present the wreath.
The Prime Minister and Sarah Brown also attended and there were performances from singers Jamie Cullum and Hayley Westenra.
