Successful 125th year for Bourne End sailing club

BOURNE END's Upper Thames Sailing Club reported record achievements at its 125th AGM.

In Sailing, Terry Curtis held onto his National Champion's title for a second year and number of our other members successfully competed at National or at inter-club level. Meanwhile the club welcomed 63 new members bringing the total in membership to 363 which is the highest recorded to date.

Norman Waite, publicity officer for the club, said: “Many of the newcomers are family members and this together with an upsurge in Cadet members will ensure the ongoing optimism and enthusiasm for this healthy and friendly of sports here on the Bucks side of the river.”

As a result of this new enthusiasm for sailing, the club has increased its stock of ‘loanable’ boats to six which are available for use by non owners.

Trophies were awarded to those who had success in the races during the year.

On Friday the club will hold a Dinner Dance event at the Bellhouse Hotel in Beaconsfield when over 140 members and friends will celebrate the special milestone of 125 years of successful sailing on the river at Bourne End.
