A YOUNG St Albans man suffered a broken jaw when he was violently mugged by two robbers on Tuesday night.

Just after midnight, the 20-year-old victim was attacked in Lemsford Road by two assailants, both in their early 20s, who escaped with his wallet, phone and iPod, running off towards Hatfield Road.

One of the pair stopped in front of him, pretending to tie his shoelaces before standing up, demanding a cigarette and swinging at his face.

One wore a grey hooded top with the hood up and white tracksuit bottoms and trainers, while the other had a black hooded top with the hood up, black trousers and trainers.

Detective Constable Zoe Austwick said: “This was a very distressing ordeal for the victim to have gone through and I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident take place.”
