A gang wearing Halloween masks robbed two 14-year-old boys in Twickenham on Halloween night.
The boys were walking along Nelson Road with a friend shortly before 6.30pm on Saturday, when they were approached by about 10 youths, some of whom were wearing Halloween masks.
The youths, aged between 13 and 16 years old, surrounded the boys and asked to borrow cash and a mobile phone.
When the boys refused the youths pushed one of them against a wall and stole the phone, after removing the sim card. A total of £6 was also taken from his wallet.
The robbery was one of several Halloween-related crimes over the weekend.
Extra police were patrolling the borough on Friday and Saturday nights, to help combat an expected jump in crime and antisocial behaviour.
A small number of people were arrested for theft and assault associated with Halloween celebrations, and officers were called to several noisy parties.
More than 100 stop-and-searches were carried out, and 23 licensed premises were inspected.
Chief Inspector Anthony Enoch said: “We deployed a number of tactics, including additional foot patrols, bicycle patrols and officers in plain clothes, and worked closely with partner agencies to give advice on safe and responsible behaviour to ensure that the public were able to enjoy Halloween.”
The increased police presence resumed for Bonfire Night celebrations last night, and will continue until Saturday night.
Transport for London’s Richmond safer transport team will also be conducting extra patrols on the borough’s bus and rail systems, to limit antisocial behaviour and target fare evaders.
