Shenley councillor to raise money in charity trek to Nepal

A SIX-DAY trek over inhospitable terrain and tough conditions awaits a Shenley councillor who has signed up to a challenge of a lifetime.

Councillor Peter Wayne, 63, will be taking part in a charity trek, along the Annapurna Mountain Range in Nepal, trekking for six days and up to nine hours at a time.

Carrying his provisions on his back, and sleeping in a tent, he will be one of 40 people taking part in the event, which will pass mountainside villages and thick rhododendron forests to give views of the great peaks and glaciers of the Himalayas.

He said: "I must be mad but I am a keen walker and have done a lot of mountaineering and wanted to do something challenging and this way it raises money for a good cause too."

His fellow walkers are also volunteers and he will meet them for the first time in January, prior to the trek in March next year.

He needs to raise more than £3,000 which will go to radio station Classic FM's charity Music Makers', which funds music therapy and music education projects with disadvantaged children and adults across the UK.

He added: "I know only too well the deep benefits music can bring into someone's life and even how crucial music therapy can be to someone who is suffering. I appreciate that we are in tough financial times, but I do hope that people will feel able to donate even just a few pence, as it all helps and will really make a difference."

To sponsor him go to www.doitforcharity.com/give and click and search under Peter Wayne. Alternatively send donations by cheque made out to Classic FM's Music Makers' to Councillor Peter Wayne at Harridor, King Edward Road, Shenley, Hertfordshire, WD7 9BY.
