HUNDREDS of schoolchildren and worshippers at a Sikh temple celebrated two separate festivals of light.
More than 450 children from schools across Dartford paraded through the town centre on Friday evening (Oct 16) while holding torches and lanterns in the first ever Dartford Festival of Light.
Organised by the North West Kent Racial Equality Council, it was part of a series of events in the borough to celebrate the upcoming 2012 Olympics.
Dev Sharma MBE, director of the council, said: “Dartford has always prided itself on its positive community relations and events like this just underline this point.
“It was so great to see the community of Dartford come together as one.”
Earlier on Friday, worshippers at Sikh temple the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Khalsa Avenue, Gravesend, had celebrated Indian festival Diwali, known as the Festival of Light.
