Police detectives are investigating a stabbing outside a Sutton supermarket in the early hours of this morning.
A 24-year-old man was admitted to hospital for treatment after he was found by police with a knife wound to his stomach outside Asda, High Street at 1.05am.
A section of Elm Grove in Sutton was cordoned off as part of the investigation.
Elm Grove resident Joyce McGillivray, 85, said: "There was a big fight outside my house at 9.45pm - there was lots of noise and I heard bottles smashing.
"As I went to bed at about midnight, I heard someone screaming - it was really frightening.
"Not long after, I saw lots of flashing lights and police officers trying to kick down the door of the flat next to me.
"They got into the flat and were in and out all night - I didn't get to sleep until 4am."
Mrs McGillivray, who has lived in Elm Grove for 30 years, said: "It's quite a nice area - things like this don't usually happen here."
A police spokesman said: "We treat all incidents involving knives extremely seriously and we investigating this incident in a thorough and robust manner."
