CHARLTON: Football initiative wins award for tackling anti-social behaviour

A FOOTBALL initiative designed to divert young people away from anti-social behaviour has won an award.

Charlton Athletic’s Inclusion Programme won a Tilley Award at a ceremony in Bolton.

The programme was one of 12 national finalists and was the South East regional winner.

In total 96,000 children participated in the Inclusion Programme including 25,000 children who took part in school sessions.

Head of Kent Police's partnership and crime reduction department, Superintendent Neil Jerome, said: “This initiative is a way of diverting young people away from the possibility of behaving anti-socially.

“The young people who attend are taught self-discipline, tolerance and good citizenship.”

The Tilley Awards were set up by the Home Office to celebrate and recognise local initiatives which demonstrate problem solving in innovative ways, partnership working, and which make an impact on crime reduction and community safety issues.
