Hatfield police officers take to the streets in ANPR campaign

POLICE in Hatfield took to the streets yesterday to target criminals and illegal drivers on the roads.

Officers from the neighbourhood team joined up with bordering forces in Hertford and Ware using Automatic Number Plate Recognition Technology (ANPR).

During the five hour operation based around Hatfield, the A414 and B1000 and other minor roads involved in daytime burglaries.

One person was arrested for obstructing police, two cars were seized for having no insurance and 30 vehicles were stopped in total.

Sergeant Tom Turner from the Hertford and Ware Neighbourhood Team said: “This was the first operation of its kind working with colleagues in the Hatfield area.

“It has proved extremely successful and had a positive impact on crime levels.

“ANPR is a powerful tool to target criminals who use the roads of Hertfordshire and I would like to warn offenders we will be carrying out similar operations in the future.”
