BUCKHURST HILL: Suspected drug dealer arrested

A SUSPECTED drug dealer was marched from their property by police as part of an on-going crackdown on crime across the district.

Police broke down the door of the suspect at their flat, above the parade of shops in Loughton Way, Buckhurst Hill, armed with a search warrant.

Inside they found cannabis and a woman in her mid-20s was arrested on suspicion of intent to supply class B drugs. She remains in police custody.

Sergeant Paul Christian, who led the raid, said: “These operations are running as one of our priorities as told to us by our Neighbourhood Action Panels.

“There's been ongoing intelligence on this flat for a couple of months gathered from numerous sources in the area: both police sources and local residents.

“This was a successful operation and shows we are taking a zero tolerance approach to this issue.”

As well as the drug raid, police carried out a simultaneous operation involving 15 PCSOs and six PCs who patrolled Loughton Way to deter anti-social behaviour.

Twenty youths were stopped and searched.

Police in the Epping Forest District have been targeting suspected drug dealers. Today's operation follows previous raids on the Debden estate in Loughton and the Ninefields estate in Waltham Abbey.

Sgt Christian said there would be more in the future, adding: “We are constantly looking at intelligence which is assessed on a regular basis.”

What use is a police force that advertises its hours of business next to the front door? Great that they have busted some guy in Buckhurst Hill. Too dangerous for them in Epping?

We need to ask ourselves is this the kind of Britain we want? There seems to be a growing trend of overt shows of strength and force and use of warrants and search powers just to put the wind up people.

Far better to deal with the situation head-on and tackle the causes of the crimes, ie: why the kids roam on the streets and behave as they do rather than use stop and search to wind them up. Teenagers always rebel against any authority, they are learning to make the change from dependant to independant living. Can't you remember what it was like?

All things considered, the police are doing a good job, and I only say this as it is a risky strategy to take in that it will further alienate the public as the police are being seen as a totalitarian security force and not the police we once knew.

I saw a City policeman helping a cyclist with a problem on his bike yesterday. He earned the respect and trust of a few people through that action. A random anecdote, but we need to work together as a community to stop problems and confrontation is not the best approach except when required for safety of people.

As for Epping, there have been some quite high profile raids earlier this year, however if I mention quad bikes and guns on fields... :-)

I think the police are losing control. They have lost the battle with drugs as the kids openly smoke it on streets
