A HOSPITAL has thanked more than 150 teenagers who volunteered for work over the summer.

The teens helped patients and staff at Queen Mary’s Hospital during the holidays in a scheme run by volunteering charity Community Service Volunteers.

They helped out on five hospital wards, including helping in the aphasia unit for people with communication problems following strokes.

Volunteers also helped with patient feeding, hygiene awareness, gardening and painting benches in corridors.

The hospital says many of the volunteers are now considering a career in the NHS.

Charity director Dame Elisabeth Hoodless said: "Every young person can make a positive contribution - that is what being part of a community is all about.”
